The skills developed in this course will prepare students for success in the workplace and/or post-secondary studies.This course emphasizes knowledge and skills related to the craft of writing. Students will use basic listening and speaking skills to communicate in English for everyday purposes; develop readiness skills for reading and writing; begin to read highly structured texts for everyday and school-related purposes; and use basic English language structures and sentence patterns in speaking and writing. Students will develop the skills necessary to make healthy choices and create a personal wellness plan. They will participate in debates and lead classroom workshops; read and interpret literary works and academic texts; write essays, narratives and reports; and apply a range of learning strategies and research skills effectively. Students will expand their awareness of environmental and societal issues and of career opportunities in the manufacturing industry.This course enables students to further develop knowledge and skills related to machining, welding, print reading, computer numerical control (CNC), robotics and design. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products and/or provide services related to the various technological areas or industries, working with a variety of tools, equipment and software commonly used in industry. They will explore travel patterns and trends as well as tensions related to tourism and will predict future tourism destinations. Students will identify responsible personal and interpersonal practices related to dance processes and production, and will apply technologies and techniques throughout the process of creation to develop artistic scope in the dance arts.This course gives students the opportunity to explore their technical and compositional skills by applying the elements of dance and the tools of composition in a variety of performance situations. Students have opportunities to extend their mathematical literacy and problem-solving skills and to continue developing their skills in reading, writing and oral language through relevant and practical math activities.This course enables students to develop understanding of mathematical concepts related to algebra, analytic geometry and measurement and geometry through investigation, the effective use of technology and abstract reasoning. Students will also explore skills related to the study of drama that can be applied in the workplace.This course requires students to create and perform in dramatic presentations. Students will further develop knowledge and skills related to the use of engine lathes, milling machines, welding machines and other related tools and equipment as they design and fabricate solutions to a variety of technological challenges in manufacturing.
