Summary: Chiro, a young bat, is nervous about flying into the world for the first time without his mother, especially on a very dark night, but he soon learns to rely on his "song" to find his way and stay safe. He uses his good sense by singing out into the world so that the world can answer him back. His mother tells him to only venture out beyond a certain point when he is confident that he will not get lost and never find his way back home, and by the end of the first night, he does exactly that, happening upon many beautiful scenes in nature.

The illustrations (mostly of Chiro) are absolutely enchanting.My son has to sleep with the book next to him every night and sings himself to sleep like chiro! One of my favorite children’s books, I buy it for almost all baby showers. Daughter loves this story. The story also teaches a bit about echolocation without actually mentioning it, and children can learn how bats can 'see' in the dark. "Use your good sense" she tells him and sends him on his way.
