In a delightfully dishy commentary track featuring Sarandon, Davis, and Khouri—by far the best extra on this edition, and well worth listening to all the way through—Sarandon talks about how the final scene was the very last one to be filmed, so that the highly charged goodbye between Thelma and Louise also served as a goodbye for the two actresses, who’d grown close over the shoot. So Anja really did disappear or was killed by the window breakage but Thelma brought her back when her dream went another way. In the middle of the movie, Thelma makes Anja disappear and the movie runs for a solid 30 minutes without her.
